Adaptive (ground) water allocation for a robust water supply
This session will focus on integrated approach(es) towards resolving issues of seasonal water shortage, saltwater intrusion, and land subsidence. The session will host approaches and cases considering subsurface as the ultimate solution for robust freshwater supplies. Master planning to ensure self-sufficiency in water supply is key for economically vibrant regions. Subsurface water storage seems to act as a bridge between water demand and supply in space and time, and salinization is prevented by strategically capturing and using brackish water in the production of freshwater.  As a result this session will provide new insights on guaranteed sufficient (future) freshwater supply for better business and climate.

Solution: Economics of groundwater - freshwater allocation in The Netherlands
Due to physical and climatological changes the risk of periodically water scarcity in The Netherlands increases. ‘How’ water security is solved is part of a bigger socio-economic case. In the Spaarwater program we use business economics, public sector and regional economics to make choices on ground- and surface water allocation.
